Why I Look Forward to Mercury Retrograde
The words “Mercury Retrograde” have long evoked a negative reaction in my house. To be fair, this is mostly my fault, as I’ve prepped my entire family on the unpredictable things that happen during this period. From computer issues, to broken appliances, travel mix-ups, lost packages and hair color gone wrong — the list of troubles has been endless.
And then recently, I began working with Mercury Retrograde in a more positive way. I’ve come to appreciate it as a means of slowing down, restoring my energy and taking special care on how I spend my time. A social media detox has become one of my favorite things to do during a Mercury Retrograde.
Mercury rules communication including speech, technology and transportation. During a retrograde the energy spins in an inward motion. The planet wants you to take time out for “inward mercury things.” What are inward mercury things you ask? It’s pretty much anything that begins with “Re” such as relax, research, re-evaluate, rekindle, restore, repair, readjust and reflect.
This is the perfect moment to take stock of your life. Here’s some questions to ask yourself:
What’s working well in my life?
What’s not?
What do I need to change?
What part of my life do I need to re-define?
In what ways can I re-write my life story? Or my relationship story? Or a story I don’t want in my life any more.
With a mercury retrograde, there are always going to be communication snafus, mix-ups and mis-understandings. But as long as you are aware of the energy and know how to use it in your favor, a retrograde can bestow its gifts upon you and be something you look forward to throughout the year.
